SCOPE:
Architecture & Design

NPAC is a competition proposal for a multi-space entertainment and educational performance facility located along Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The project is conceived as a flexible, community-focused venue that supports performance, learning, and public engagement within a single, cohesive framework.

The design is driven by the need to accommodate a range of program types—from formal performances to informal rehearsals and educational activities—while maintaining clarity in circulation and organization. Multiple performance and support spaces are integrated into a unified system that allows simultaneous use without operational conflict.

Public access and visibility are central to the concept. The building is positioned to engage both the waterfront and surrounding urban context, creating a strong civic presence while remaining approachable at a neighborhood scale. Circulation paths are designed to be intuitive, encouraging movement through the building and reinforcing connections between users, performers, and audiences.

The project emphasizes accessibility to the arts, particularly for younger performers and emerging talent. Dedicated education and rehearsal spaces are distributed throughout the plan, allowing learning and performance to operate in parallel. This approach supports ongoing engagement rather than limiting activity to scheduled events.

Form and material expression are used to reinforce the project’s core idea: individuality within a collective environment. The building is composed as a series of distinct yet connected elements, each representing different functions and user groups while contributing to an overall unified identity.

NPAC is designed as both a performance venue and a community resource—balancing flexibility, visibility, and program diversity to support long-term cultural engagement.
